Parish Walks

Discover The Salings on Foot

We’re delighted to share walks that include parts of our parish and are featured by the Hundred Parishes Society, a local volunteer-led charity that promotes awareness and enjoyment of this distinctive part of England.

The Hundred Parishes Society has produced over 100 downloadable circular walks across the region. These leaflets include maps, clear directions, historical notes, and interesting features along the way. Here is one which walks around The Salings:

Walks are free to download from the Hundred Parishes Society website. All walk leaflets include maps, directions, and points of interest.

Public Footpaths and Rights of Way

In addition to set walking routes, The Salings parish is well served by a network of public footpaths. You can explore these using the official Essex County Council Public Rights of Way (PROW) map:

🔍 Essex PROW Map (Interactive)

This map allows you to zoom in and identify all footpaths, bridleways, and byways across the county. It also includes tools for reporting any issues or obstructions on local routes.

We’ve created a PDF showing the current footpaths in and around The Salings, based on the Essex PROW map. Which you can access here.

(This map highlights public footpaths and bridleways in the area. Please note that it may not reflect temporary path closures or diversions.)

Footpath Care in The Salings

The Salings is fortunate to have a dedicated P3 volunteer (Parish Paths Partnership volunteer), who works with Essex Highways to help keep our public footpaths clear and safe for walkers. This volunteer helps maintain the routes by clearing vegetation and reporting issues, all in their own time.

If you notice any problems on the footpaths, please consider using the Essex PROW map’s reporting tool.

Before You Set Off

Please be prepared for changing weather and walking conditions, and take care when using public footpaths. Follow the Countryside Code and be respectful of farmland and private property.
