Possible downgrading of a section of Byway 10 to a bridleway

Dear Resident,

The Parish Council with parishioner support, has been given the opportunity to lodge a formal request for Essex County Council to look into the process and legalities of downgrading Rogues Green (officially Byway 10 and part of Byway 31) back to a bridleway.

The section of Rogues Green/ Byway 10 starts after Gentleman’s farm has deteriorated over the years and is in great disrepair. Essex County Council have already stated the byway will have temporary  later this year, with it being finished by spring of 2024. But the byway also suffers from antisocial behaviour, by ‘green laners’ that drive motorised vehicles for fun along it, owing to its current state of disrepair.
At a recent meeting between Cllr Lee Scott (Essex County Council Portfolio Holder for Highway maintenance & Sustainable Transport), residents of Saling, members of the PC and Salings District Councillor, the issues of local users of the byway were highlighted in the most strongest fashion. At this meeting Cllr Lee Scott discussed that downgrading of the byway to a bridleway could be approached.

If you have any objection or want to show your support, for the Parish Council pursuing the possible downgrading of a section of Byway 10  to a bridleway can you please email your reasons to the following email by 14th July 2023, 5pm: clerk@salings-pc.gov.uk.

Thank you,

Lisa Harris

Clerk for the Salings Parish Council
